Open Call for Creative Works: Tangible Donations
DAPEC – Denton, TX
Project: Awakening
1st Deadline: December 1, 2008
Harvested from the fertile soil of her experiences caring for the ill, aged, or dying, the emergent artist Rosemary Ortega Lockard is the Curator of Project: Awakening for the Denton Area Partnership for End-of-Life Care (DAPEC) a local, nonprofit. Together we have convened to sow an innovative idea in the garden of earthly delights.*
We are currently accepting tangible donations that may be perceived with the various senses for our Project: Awakening. The goal of our community project is to facilitate and engender conversation regarding the most fundamental concerns of human existence of which we all share, that of our birth, our life, and the inevitability of our death. It is our hope that you will join in our passion for others and allow us to carry forth your exploration-of-ideas in addressing these basic issues we all face. Your pieces will be made available to the community at hospitals, nursing homes, community centers, and any additional places fit for the display of your work. We will explore and develop ways to reach those experiencing extenuating circumstances while providing these services at no cost through DAPEC.
Guidelines for content are general to encourage your creative exploration of the themes of awakening, death, life, and birth. You are invited to donate 2D and 3D works, poetry, essays, and creative writings. 2D works: ready-to-hang, framed work must use plexi – no glass, maximum size of W 30 X H 40 . 3D works: easy-to-handle, lightweight, durable, limited space available for 3D works each will be considered. Papers: 1-4 pages in length, double- spaced, edited for copy, and we ask that you allow us to create a recorded reading of chosen works as to accommodate persons with physical limitations or impairments.
Contact Rosemary Ortega Lockard at lockard. rosemary(at)gmail(dot)com or call: 940-390-5940. When contacting please provide: artist name, title of work, medium, type of work (2D, 3D, poetry, essay, creative writing), dimensions. You may attach PDF, JPEG or GIF files under 1 MB to assist in the selection process. Donations are tax-deductible.

IKE roared through and the coast took a beating.

Hurricane IKE beat the crap out of the Texas coast. Here in Dallas, it was no more than a Thunderstorm with heavy rains. I hope that my friends down there are all ok! Texans are tough though, so I am not too worried
I just hope the clean up happens quick because I am ready to go to the beach next year! Here is a picture of what that storm did..
