About Me

General Info:

My name is Dustin Larmeir and I’ve been involved with tech for several years working in the Hosting industry and love it. I come from a humble background and this translates into who I am.

Background:

My journey in the tech world started around 2005 when I had been working in the physical security world for around 7 + years. I had spent time as a security officer, loss prevention, and manager but was left feeling dissatisfied with my profession. Tech was a hobby of mine going back as far as 1997 but I never though it would become a career of mine. Jumping backwards, in 2003 I was working at a facility that was throwing out old computers (wastefully I might add) and I started collecting the parts from the trash. Slowly but surely, I started putting together systems and hardware from the bits I collected and starting acquiring my own PC lab. From there I started working with Windows server OS’s and Linux (Redhat 9 was big at the time). I started really getting into it and knew at that time I should go after a career in the industry. Well, as you know this particular time period was fairly slow in the tech industry as it was not long after .com boom had busted. I tried to get a job but noone would give me the time of day as to them my resume only showed a tenured security guard. In 2005, my wife and I made a concentrated search to locate a job that would get my foot in the door  – Bravotech was my in and they got me a contractor job for Calyx software supporting calyx point. Calyx was a great company and I learned alot from them but unfortunately I was unable to secure a full time job with them in the amount of time I needed it as I needed better benefits from my family etc. I then saw that The Planet Internet services was hiring so I took a stab at it. I got hired on and was so green in the ways of Linux! It was a sink or swim opportunity but I made it and worked from them for about a year but knew I had outgrown the position and needed to seek a new venue. From there, I went to SoftLayer technologies which was a very good learning experience. I learned a lot there and met some great people and my tech skills were further sharpened and I think my brain grew LOL. Although SoftLayer was a good company, I didn’t have advancement path that fit my career needs so I parted with them on the best of terms and then found a home at FireHost My tenure at FireHost has further sharpened my skills, expanded my knowledge of the industry, and given me a incredible career!
