I’ve been flashing my MyTouch 4g with various ROMs for a while now and have gone through Cyanogen Mod, MIUI, and most recently Virtuous Sense.
All 3 of these ROMs are great but I must say that the latest revision of Virtuous is pretty awesome. The UI is pretty fast and very pleasing to the eyes.
The only complaint I have is that I’ve had some issues keeping the date and time in sync. Not sure what is going on there but I believe I have resolved it by resetting it a few times.
If you have a Droid I’d strongly suggest checking it out: http://www.virtuousrom.com/p/sense.html – It is definitely worth the download!
Total Terminal is great for Geeks who use the shell a lot. Whether your programming or ssh’ing into servers to fix stuff it is nice to have a terminal with flexibility.
My favorite use of total terminal is the full screen option which allows you to pop it in and out with a hot key. I definitely recommend that you check out this tool here: http://totalterminal.binaryage.com/
I recently started using OSX Lion and I’m pretty satisfied with it. I’ve heard alot of bad reviews on it but seems to run pretty solid on my I7 Imac with 16GB of RAM.
The main thing that is messing me up a little bit is how they phased out spaces and replaced it with Mission control. The new Mission control is not bad but does take some getting used to for those of us Snow Leopard users who used spaces alot. That being said, the new window management and full screen capabilities of applications is pretty cool and seems to perform better.
The launchpad is pretty cool as well and is a nice, new, sleek feature. The only thing I hated out of the box was the gestures – It annoyed the heck out of me while using the magic mouse as the slightest finger movement would cause my Mac to do unwanted operations. This feature might be great with the trackpad but is a headache for those of us who prefer the magic mouse.
The upgrade itself was pretty painless. The only major thing I needed to fix was xcode since I relay on it for Brew to use my open source tools.
I recommend upgrading to Lion if you haven’t already as overall it is a better OS in my opinion.
I’d been using Ubuntu as my primary desktop OS for years and enjoyed using it for my day to day needs. Then the Ubuntu 11.10 release came into my life….
Ubuntu 11.10′s unity interface is horrid, awkward to use, and invasive. During the upgrade process from 11.04 to 11.10, the update destroyed the classical Gnome desktop I had worked hard to customize which really made me mad.
The desktop that Ubuntu originally built is now being destroyed in favor of a lame netbook/tablet/phone style interface. I’ve completely given up on using Ubuntu as my primary desktop OS and will use Mac OSX instead since it gives me a solid user experience as well as the Unix guts and tools that I need.
I hope that the Ubuntu team is listening to the people and will ditch Unity soon…
